• Embroidery is all about capturing form and texture to please the eye.  I tend to get carried away with all my ideas and don't focus on the technique as much.  So although this might not be competition material, it most certainly is enjoyable!

Ring cushion in the making Ring cushion in the making Alet Gardner

Our beautiful, talented youngest daughter’s wedding took place in August 2015.

The challenge that had come my way was to be creative and come up with a stunning ring cushion.

The theme: succulents, and the colour scheme: the colourful lilac-breasted roller, a bird that is indigenous to the South African Bushveld.

The ensuing labour of love took me on a journey of creativity with basic embroidery stitches, picking up on the shapes of the different succulents that we used in the bridal bouquet, table decorations, the oasis balls and the chuppah. Jamie, her youngest nephew, had his birthday on the wedding day and had the honour of being the ring bearer – a charming 5 year-old young man dressed in camel coloured trousers and a navy jacket.

Alet Gardner

Hi there! I am an South African expat, living in the lovely Kent countryside in the UK.
I love everything meaningful and beautiful - so I try my hand at photography, painting, embroidery, needlework, cooking and writing.

My inspiration for all of this: the people that I love,
and the love that God has for me.
