A few decades ago I, like many a recently engaged young woman, used to be delighted by
the countless specks of light my brand-new diamond ring could “sprinkle” onto surfaces around me. The beauty of the refracted sunlight reminded me of the wonder of sunlight that I easily accepted as just a normal daily happening.

Nowadays I seldom notice the wonder of my ring’s little specks of light. I don’t wash and polish my ring regularly and don’t even spend the time to look for those magical pockets of rainbow colours. My early enchantment, my “first love”, has truly been “abandoned” (as happened to the first century church in Ephesus – Revelation 2:4).

I can so easily get used to the wonder of the light of God shining over my life, a light that can shine in and through a life surrendered to Him. Being “too” busy, I neglect spending time at the feet of my heavenly Father. I forget that miracle of Jesus who came to pay the highest price to redeem me. I don’t appreciate the miracle of the presence of the Holy Spirit in my life.

The way to rectify this situation, is to start spending quality time with Him, to “eat” his Word (delve into the Bible). When I allow God to renew my mind through his Word and by his Spirit, his light will become visible in my life again – even in the ordinary things I’m doing. This way my work and my life will fit in with his greater plan and will therefore be meaningful, and a blessing to others.

Jesus is the sole expression of the glory of God [the Light-being, the out-raying of radiance of the divine), and He is the perfect imprint and very image of [God’s] nature, upholding and maintaining and guiding and propelling the universe by His mighty word of power. – Hebrews 1:3 AMPC

My prayer: “Lord, that something of the beauty of your glory and majesty might be visible in my life – even where I’m busy with the ordinary things of life. May my work fit in with your greater plan and therefore be truly meaningful.”
